About Emily Murch
I weave stories in thread - quiet reflections of the landscapes that surround me. The colours of the Peak District run through my yarns: rain-washed stone, soft heather, and the blue hush of evening light.
Each piece begins with hand-painted yarn, then takes shape slowly on one of my three floor looms. The rhythm of weaving becomes a meditation, a way to hold light, texture, and time within cloth.
I weave to redefine how people see wearable textiles, not as disposable objects, but as living stories. Each piece is rooted in nature, colour, and texture, designed to speak to memory and place. My practice is about connection: giving people cloth they can truly know, carry with them, and keep forever.
I’m fascinated by what makes people see certain belongings as precious. The stories, the feel, the connection that grows over time. Through storytelling, luxury yarns, and the iridescence of hand-dyed colour, I aim to create heirloom pieces that people cherish and hand on to the next generation.
I weave slowly and intentionally, producing no more than two pieces on each warp so I can unite texture, colour, dimension, and structure in harmony. The opposite of fast fashion. My hope is that, in my small corner of the world, I’m encouraging people to choose something precious that will last a lifetime and beyond.
The smaller framed works you’ll find here are glimpses of these woven landscapes. Fragments of sky and moor captured in silk, wool, and linen. Wearable pieces can only be purchased in person. It’s important to me that the texture and balance of a piece suits you as well as the colours, and to judge that, you need to meet a piece in person.
